It has hit the theatres on 28 March 2025, promising to bring double the fun and madness compared to its prequel. The making of this film was directed by Kalyan Shankar, produced by Haarika Suryadevara and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, and reunites its much-beloved cast of Sangeeth Shobhan, Narne Nithiin, and Ram Nithin.

The story describes an individual Laddu (Vishnu Oi), imprisoned in Tihar Central Jail, and terrifying the other inmates. The film goes on as a roller-coaster ride of events comedy, chaos, and unexpected turns.

Performances

  • Vishnu Oi brings in very comic acting as Laddu, showing perfect much expected comic timing.

  • The three leads Narne Nithiin, Sangeeth Shobhan, and Ram Nithin are back with their very unique camaraderie to inject life into the movie.

Highlights

  • Enticing Moments: The film is packed with laugh-out-loud scenes to engage the viewer.

  • Concise Runtime: The movie shuns unnecessary drags, and the plot is tight and fast-paced.

  •  The cinematography and visual brilliance add up to the lightheartedness of the movie.

Drawbacks

  • Weak Story: The film does not have a robust storyline, the comedy alone being relied upon for its hangover.

  • Inconsistent Humor: The hit-or-miss qualities of some jokes get mixed in forced or repeat ones.

  • Underdeveloped Characters: There is no depth into some of the supporting characters.

  • Forgetful Music: There is nothing about the soundtrack other than the "Swathi Reddy" song that impresses.

Analysis

"Mad Square" prides itself as a coming of age comedy that does not take itself too seriously, preferring to prioritize fun and entertainment over deep storytelling. The humor is good, but at times, inconsistent. It is a decent viewable comedy for audiences who liked the first one, owing to the tight runtime and strong performances.

Final words

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
Bottom Line: A good comedy entertainer worth laughing at but not totally dependable. If you loved "MAD," watching "Mad Square" will be extremely enjoyable for you.
