International Women's Day (IWD), observed every year on March 8, aims at commemorating women's achievements and bringing to light the worth of equality between genders. The first National Women's Day was observed in the United States in 1909. By 1911, the movement reached Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. They were adopted at this time in 1975 when the United Nations started celebrating March 8 as International Women's Day.
